I have noticed that the top of the forward manifold stud is very very close to touching a boss on the carb throttle body when I tighten the carb down to the manifold. I am using a NOS carb and NOS gasket with diffuser. I looked at two old intake manifolds I have. One had a stud cut shorter. The other had the stud bent forward. Both interventions to solve this same problem? Is this a known issue? What is the fix? Trim the stud shorter by a few mm?

It is a known issue. The wrong stud was installed. Either find a shorter one or remove a couple of mm. Even with the correct stud, nut installation requires the carb be lifted slightly to place it.

Hi Mike.. you may benefit by changing the flat washers for lock washers to prevent the nuts from backing out and creating a vacuum leak..

Thanks Rick. I did trim the stud this past weekend by about 2 threads. It looks much better and won't hit the throttle body now. I made sure I used a lock washer when I put the carb back on.
