I am new to your site. Tons of great information. I am trying to identify Carter WO carb on a '46 cj2a. The identifying PAT numbers don't match visual description. Not boxed in, and the last three numbers are on the underside of the carb. Last number does match, though, 2252958. It also has a brass 636SA tag with two spade symbols cut in. Can you tell from these pictures if this is an original Carter WO 636SA? Don't want to start ordering rebuild kits until I know what I have. Thanks.

Hi there!
What you have is a "Carter Salad". I count three different models mixed together. Possibly 539, 596, and 636. Don't worry! They all get the same kit. However, one problem may come up. The kit does not address the possibility of the throttle shaft and bores being worn enough to create a vacuum leak which, if bad enough, won't let you even start the motor.
Keep asking questions!

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. The rig has been sitting for a long time so I’m sure it’s all varnished up. Is it possible for you to swap parts and do a rebuild so I end up with one carb instead of salad if I send you this one?

Not a problem. I assume you want a 636?

Picking up this conversation again. Yes, a 636 would be good, or if the main body is a 569 and that is still good, I would be happy to build off of that. I hope to get time to take this off tomorrow and get ready for shipment. I will get a form ready to send with the carb if you tell me which one 636 or 569 would be best. Or would you not know until you look at it.

A '46 2A came from the factory with a 636.

Thanks. I have been wandering around trying to identify what stock parts I still have. I saw one post that said 596 may have crossed over into a 46, but I’m definitely going with your word. You are universally referred to as the master of this stuff.

There were probably a few 596s that were installed in '46. Willys always used up old stock before placing the new.

Hi. Took carb off today. Decided to also send fuel pump for your inspection. Thinking about insuring since my last package via USPS was "lost" for three weeks. Could you suggest value for these two if had to replace? Thanks.

Hello Jilly and welcome to the site. Consider that your outgoing mail is really core value only. Your incoming return pkg is where the real value is after the units are put back into factory condition.

When shipping with USPS Flat Rate packaging the contents are automatically insured for $100. That is roughly the core value of a carb and pump. Unfortunately, eBay pricing can be ridiculously high. Unless requested by the customer to use them, I always ship UPS. Rule number 1: Take the time to package them properly. Some facilities along the route to here employ gorillas who like to toss things around.

Good morning. Do I need to include the bail and the glass bowl with the pump core?
