When Willys switched from a war footing in 1945, and knew they had a civilian market for the Jeep, management decided that a vehicle designed for farm use, mainly for jobs that tractors would perform, needed to be designed and built. It was easy to add a hydraulic three-point hitch, or a generator/welder driven by a PTO, or even a water pump. Other machinery was adapted to the little truck, now known as the "CJ", or Civilian Jeep. But it was also understood that when Ma and Pa and the kids would need good, dependable transportation to Church on Sunday, or into town to go to the market and feed store they came up with the Agri-Jeep. A new design carburetor was called for and Carter stepped up with the 596S.

Thanks HG! Both will find good homes here. You have earned an Associate Professorship.
These are scans from the instruction sheet from a Carter NOS Rebuild kit I bought.
